Kisii Kid’s Orphanage – Kenya (2012 to 2017 Update)

Ben and Kisii Kids In the spring of 2012 I was able to visit this small orphanage in Kisii, Kenya. It began in the spring of 2010 as some sincere gospel workers in the area began to discover the seriousness of the need to care for these children in their local area. The leader of this orphanage is a very sincere Seventh-day Adventist Christian who began by taking locally orphaned and needy children into his own home. Just a little over two years from their humble beginning they grew to have 45 kids to care for there. Ages ranging from around 5-18 years old.

The children are cared for, fed, and sent to local schools. The younger children are educated in a humble school that has on the orphanage campus. Other families in the area have even begun to send their children to this orphanage school, since learning of it. The two teachers there are well qualified for the work, but are working for practically nothing (save maybe a room), mostly as a service to these orphaned children.

Children are taught to be responsible and industrious, learning to work, and to take up a trade so that they may be productive members of society rather than just idlers. Everyday they are taught of Christ in their morning and evening worships together. On Sabbaths they hold a branch Sabbath school meeting right there in their school building (transformed into a church). The children are taught diligently on Sabbaths of the presence and truth of God. They are learning in depth, the prophecies of the Bible from Daniel and Revelation, as well as the other Scriptural truths we know and believe.

From a young age they are being instilled with a missionary knowledge and spirit so that they may not sit around to think only of themselves, but rather will take charge of their lives, and give themselves wholly in service to God! While it always remains the choice of every individual what they will ultimately do with themselves, their training is such as to encourage this deep holding of truth, and desire to share it! Truly God has been blessing this work in Kisii, Kenya.

If you’d like to know more of their situation or learn how you too can possibly be of help with the work there, please contact them, or visit the Kisii Kids Orphanage homepage on Facebook, or best yet, their orphanage website. The director there is Stevenson K. Maranga and he is helped by his wife, Damaris, and several other local Kenyan volunteers. Some of the ongoing needs there are: (1) Building/upkeep projects, (2) Extra food and clothing needs for the children/including some school uniform items for the older kids, and shoes, etc., and (3) School fees and costs. You can give for this project by checking out the info on their website donation page.

In 2015-2016 the orphanage moved to a new campus and took on over 100 children. In late 2016 into 2017 the orphanage has begun to receive some support through GMI – Gospel Ministries International, a ministry through missionary pilot, David Gates. It’s exciting to see how God is working there! Please keep this project in your prayers and consider how you might be able to help with it and others like it!
